Why do we do it?
It's no secret that honeybee populations are declining in California.
Commercial beekeepers have reported Hive losses up to 50% in a single year. That's bad considering the selfless cross-pollination efforts of the honey bee is responsible for every third bite of food we put in our mouths. And while there are a few reasons for colony collapse disorder, loss of foraging space tops the list. Even farmers are planting flowering habitat at the edge of their fields in order to give bees a quick pick-me-up before or after they go to work in fields and orchards.
